PETITION:

End tax dodging by multinational corporations in poorer

countries

Picture
Church Action for Tax Justice believes in a world where all people can flourish. Global resources should be distributed so that no one is held back from their full potential. A just world is what it means to pray ‘Your Kingdom Come’. But many multinationals fail to pay the taxes they owe in poorer countries. It has been estimated that tax dodging by multinationals costs the developing world up to $400bn each year –three times the amount that is given in aid to those countries.

That’s why we want the British government to ensure that developing countries can collect their fair share of taxes from multinational corporations.

We the undersigned call upon the UK government to use its position to support global tax reforms* which will ensure that poorer countries receive the taxes they are due.

*Reform of the global tax rules is currently being discussed in a process led by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Proposals led by India, Colombia and Ghana on behalf of poorer nations will ensure that developing countries get more of the tax that they are owed but other proposals, including those of the US, will keep things as they are and developing countries will lose out. We want the British government to lend its support to those proposals that will benefit poorer countries the most, and ensure that they receive their fair share of tax.

Please join us in this call.
